Darren Smith Memorial Ride

Darren Smith was one of Queensland cycling greatest hopes. He was only 19 and had the whole cycling world at his feet. His greatest years were definitely ahead of him, as he had just completed his 2nd road season with the new AIS Giant Pro team based in Australia. Darren had had a brilliant year in 1992 and had capped it of with a 10th place in the road race at the Barcelona Olympic Games. Tragically, while he was home that summer, Darren was out training and was hit by a truck and killed. The Darren Smith Memorial Ride is a timely reminder that road safety is important to us all. This ride is to celebrate Darren's life and a time to get together and do what we love. Ride Safely!
