The Winter Warmer Ride

The Winter Warmer Ride

250km
In two days

Join us for an overnight ride.
11-12th August.
Leaving the Lifecycel car park at 0630

The Winter Warmer route departs Lifecycle and heads out to Samford via Kelvin Grove Road and Samford Road. The first climb of the day will be the Samford range, approximately 1.5km long, and afterwards we’ll descend into Samford and continue on to Dayboro. Once we hit Dayboro we’ll be ascending Mt Mee, a 6km steady climb and stop for a breather and a feed at the top.  After our stop we’ll continue along a further 15km of undulating dairy country and a very steep and fast (80km/h) descent follows.  After the descent we are 8km from Woodford where we’ll stop for morning tea at the Woodford bakehouse.

After refueling, we leave Woodford and head up the Beerwah/Kilcoy road towards Peachester. This road passes the site of the folk festival and is really beautiful flat valley riding. The terrain changes after about 20km when we begin the ascent to Maleny. This climb begins with a steady 2km climb after which we turn left onto Stanley River road. This bad boy (the climb!) is probably the hardest of the day with quite steep sections and varying grades throughout. Don’t despair, this is the homeward stretch and leads us to a left hand turn into Mountain View road where we’ll be staying for the night. Upon arrival, you can wind down with a lunch, which is included, and relax and take in the breathtaking views. There is an Irish bar and a great restaurant at Tranquil Park for dinner.

The total for day 1 of riding will be around 125km.  This covers beautiful contry side however it also includes several tough climbs so please make sure you have enough fitness to complete this ride.

We’ll be riding back to Brisbane on the Sunday morning and arrival time will be around lunchtime. Sunday’s ride will be about the same distance but considerably easier. We will descend the Blackall range into Peachester and then ride back to Brisbane behind the Glasshouse mountains and through Morayfield, to Lifecycle.
